August 3, 2016 – As a television news photographer, it’s my job to point a video lens at strangers on the street, but for some reason, with my personal camera in hand–and shooting for a hobby not a news story–I had a tough time. It felt invasive. Would I want someone photographing me and posting a picture to their personal social media? Hmmm. I suppose it depends on the photo. Even so, I committed to this challenge, so pushed myself to get a Street Candid Portrait.
Week 31: Portrait Street Candid
Candids on the street, show us life in your town through the lens!
I think he noticed me. Based on the gestures, his friend’s story must have been a good one.
The last couple of weeks, we’ve found ourselves at the Orange County Civic Center covering stories about the homeless situation. First, an incident between a cop and a homeless man (officer shot the man after he claimed the man reached for his gun), and second, the issues at the public library, now overrun with homeless calling the building home for the day, including the bathroom. Considering there are around 500 people making camp every night outside the library’s doors, that’s a problem, because it’s impacting actual library patrons. Plus, library staff said they have had many incidents of vandalism, indecent exposure, and drug use.
So what’s the solution? I don’t know. It’s a tough one.
A few other shots I tried with m GoPro, but that don’t really fit the “Portrait” part of the prompt.
I fell behind, but am catching up, with my COLORFUL LANDSCAPE ready to go…
