January 3, 2016 – I like challenges. Just ask my friend the Rubber Duck. I don’t know if it’s the competitive side of me, or the joy I find in structure. Working from an assignment is my ideal–which hey, explains why being a television photojournalist works for me. Every day I’m given a news assignment to be completed by day’s end.
Look at that! Insight into what drives me.
Anyway. In 2014, I did the 100 Happy Days Challenge.
In 2015, I did the Blogilates Stretch Challenge…
…and the Journey to Splits Challenge.
For 2016, I’m diving back into my craft. Photography. Yes, I know I shoot (video) every day for news, but I’ve been getting REALLY lazy in my personal photography. I mean, LAZY. I rarely drag along my DSLR. Instead, I shoot everything with my iPhone.
And I call myself a photographer! Sheesh.
Handy as the phone is–and as surprisingly decent as the pictures can sometimes be–it’s still a camera phone.
Funny enough, one of my writer friends posted this challenge:
52 weeks. The entire year. I’ve never done a full year challenge. There are three categories: Portrait, Landscape, Artistic. Each week, we’ll be given an assignment that falls into one of these categories, like so:
|WEEK 18||Artistic: Texture||The artistic inspiration this week is texture. You should almost be able to feel the image.|
|WEEK 19||Portrait: Messy||Take an amazing portrait of someone, make a mess while you are doing it.|
|WEEK 20||Landscape: Nightowl||A tripod is going to be handy this week… time to shoot a night landscape. Look for some light for the scene! Car lights, city lights, or maybe just moonlight.|
|WEEK 21||Artistic: Fantasy||Is this real life, or is this just fantasy… Your artistic inspiration this week is fantasy.|
|WEEK 22||Portrait: Hands||Usually the face is the strongest element in the frame; with the hands being second. Make the hands the most important element in your image this week.|
|WEEK 23||Landscape: Weather||This week should be as unpredictable as the weather! Feature the weather in this week’s landscape.|
I’m excited to get to work, but, uh… only have my iPhone with me.
If you’d like to follow along, I’ll post the photo every Friday to social media as well as the blog (subscribe window in the right column) until Friday December 30th.
Even better, participate! If you do, drop a line in the comment box below and let me know where to follow your adventures in photography. If you’re interested in joining a small closed Facebook group, click this link! I’d be happy to add you.
Until next Friday,
